To mark Lancashire Day and coinciding with the Rugby World Cup and the Football World Cup, the Active Mile 2022 began on the 21st November 2022 and concluded on 27th November 2022.

Lancashire Schools – primary, secondary, PRUs and Special Schools were encouraged to complete 1 mile of activity during this period, using a ball in the mile if it was safe to do so. It has been great to see the response of schools (at rather short notice this year!) getting pupils involved - completed miles in the school fields, playgrounds, tracks and AstroTurf’s; 53% of them included a ball. Feedback from schools said how much more motivated pupils were using a ball and one school even did some juggling during their mile.

We KNOW the benefits of physical activity and the benefits of being outdoors so being able to include this in the school day is super and great to see schools taking this on board and facilitating.

Active Lancashire’s School Games team set the challenge of racking up enough miles to travel (virtually) from Preston to Qatar and returning back to Preston – a total of over £8,000 miles. Lancashire school pupils smashed this target and totalled 11,032 miles.

43 Lancashire Schools logged miles this year, so well done to all who got involved and be prepared for the Active Mile 2023 – let’s get more and more schools committing to this and reaping the benefits physical activity brings.

With the Christmas term coming to a close and the icy weather in full swing, on behalf of us here at Lancashire School Games and Active Lancashire, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Keep Active!! School pupil completes active mile 2022
